Being careful

Hello. I just wanted to make sure everyone stresses to their kids when they talk to them about being aware of their surroundings. The kids have had so far a lot of freedom in the small towns; now they are heading to larger places. Just stress to them to be aware of the people around them (those not in the group). I remember Sammie telling me last year that in Australia, she saw some guy walking around when the kids were in a shopping area. She got a wierd feeling about him when he passed by the group. Apparently this same guy tried to grab one of the girl's backpacks a short time later, but the other delagates with her at the time assisted her. I still am not clear on where the leaders were at that time (if they were ahead of the group, but this was something they were not aware of apparently). It was something that some of the parents started chatting about when they heard about it - some time after the fact.

I am not trying to scare anyone, but even here in the US, we keep a close eye on our stuff. It shouldn't be any different there. Too bad our world is not as trusting as it once was. Keep the buddy system going and when at resturants, don't just hang their backpack on the back of their chair - remember that resturant distraction video we watched, it could happen. Maybe instead they can put it between their legs or something.

I just want every delagate and leader to be safe and have the time of their lives. Kathy B. #5

I heard about that from Emily when she came back from Australia also. They have a different group of leaders this year. Elizabeth is a lot more thorough.

I am confident with this group of leaders too. Kathy B.
